Inspired

What inspires me.

I have always been interested in the Human Story. As a child I'd observe my family and neighbors and jot down their behaviors in my notebook, while asking a ton of questions along the way. As a Journalism student at West Virginia University, I always sought the unsung hero; the quirky, overlooked event; the senior citizen quietly making a difference at the VFW hall. When I turned 30, I approached my grandfather with, what he called, "The Project". "Pen-pal" was always a comfortable mode for us, so, as I was in California, and he in New York, I filled a binder with blank loose-leaf paper, printed out sheets of questions on labels, and sent it off. About four months later, I received the book back in the mail with all of the stickers affixed to the head of sheets containing his neat, angled script. Some questions were answered using just a few lines, and others, such as, "Tell me about your wives," (he had married five times!), took many pages to fully answer. "The Project" opened up areas of my grandfather's life to me that I had not previously known, topics that I hadn't expected him to be tender about, he was, his answers were honest, thorough, thoughtful, pragmatic...exactly as he lived day-to-day. When he passed away a very short time later, "The Life & Times of Howard E. Green", as the binder came to be called, became a treasure and comfort for my family. The absolute Meaning that those pages hold for us, and the pleasure of the process for me, was, ultimately, the genesis of Life Story Recording. That Our Project provided me the clarity with which to finally channel my innate curiosity, and appreciation for our collective Human Story, makes what I am doing that much more fulfilling and an absolute honor to undertake.

Every life is a story, it is my honor to capture yours.
